Creating A Sustainable Digital Printing World

By Christa Jarvis

Through the ages the processes in which man conveys information has over time evolved from the primitive painting and drawing on cave walls to the advanced and sophisticated detailed printing. This new type of medium incorporates environmentally friendly strategies to guarantee a desirable green world by it being made sustainable. It strives to meet the need of our current generation without compromising the need of the future generation. This has been made possible through sustainable digital printing.

It is important to have this process because of a number of reasons. They include: manufacturing industries being in a position to be competitive while at the same time employing green technology. This particular approach require to be orderly and systemic. Sustainability requires complex and continuous processes that requires a joint input of all the departments in a manufacturing industry.

There are three distinct codes that sums up the environmental guidelines and responsibilities. They are :the product which houses the proposals, the resources to be used and the produce output that is directly linked to the industries: the envelop that deal with the place of manufacturing and the support given at that place: the process gives the definite prints before and after the process.

This system offers maximum recycling of waste. By use of vegetable based inks in printing work instead of the common that are petroleum based. This activity lowers consumable waste and boosts energy ratings making it more energy efficient. The harvesting of renewable energy and conservation of scarce resources hence good management of waste materials.

There are steps to make this system more sustainable, one, use of biodegradable and renewable materials. This includes the use of vegetable based inks which are petroleum free and also don't contain heavy metals. This makes the production of these materials safe and hence they will be able to perform the so important function well.

The other idea is to make it modular. This involves making custom solutions with standardized materials. This materials prove easy to recycle t the end of life span and they are also easy to repair or update this in the long run lead to its long life span. It is also efficiently manufactured and shipped hence reducing the energy consumption throughout the products life.

The other factor to put into consideration is the size matter. This could be archived by reducing the use of paper by designing smaller pieces e. G. Cutting off an inch off the booklet height without compromising the integrity of the design. Use of lightweight products reduces carbon emission and also eases the cost of shipping. The type of font should also be considered, light font are not only easy to read and elegant but are also ink efficient compared to bold fonts.

We should all partner up to deal with this issue as one. Partnering with a certified company can help eliminate the guesswork. We should pride ourselves on our environmental commitment and authenticity, working with paper mills that incorporate the most sustainable design principles. In the end we will all enjoy the fruits of our labor.
