Planning The Perfect Karate Party

By Leigh Metopher

Karate is an activity that most children love and if your son or daughter is enrolled in lessons for martial arts in Carlsbad or martial arts in San Marcos or perhaps martial arts in Encinitas, consider using a karate or martial arts theme for their next party. Here are tips for a martial arts birthday party.

Because Karate is a Japanese martial art, developed on the islands of Okinawa, you definitely should consider serving up some cool Japanese cuisine. Certainly some children might be a bit wary of certain types of sushi, but you could keep it simple with California rolls or even create festive candy sushi using dried fruit leather, candies and crisp rice treats. Simple, kid-friendly Japanese tidbits include items such as shelled edamame, gyoza dumplings and yakitori, which are basically chicken kebabs. Even egg rolls, which actually are Chinese, might be a fun tidbit. If you have an Asian market nearby, check it out and you are sure to find some fun Japanese foods that the kids might enjoy trying.

Decorations could be in shades of white, black and red. You can hang red and black paper lanterns from the ceiling, and decorate the walls with banners using a stylish ninja font. Anything with ninjas and dragons will enhance the karate theme, so consider looking for decorations that feature these two items. When children arrive, present each guest with a white karate headband with their name written on it.

When it comes to games and activities, provide a few simple crafts such as a station where children make origami items, such as birds or ninja stars. If they make the stars, you also can create a game where children try to throw the stars and knock lightweight balls off of a tube. A chopstick relay also could be fun as children hold an item such as cotton ball or marshmallow with chopsticks and run from one side of the room and back without dropping it. These are just a few fun games that will help pass the time at your party.

If you want to make the party really easy, simple call your local Carlsbad karate school, such as Team MAI and book a party at the dojo. The staff at Team MAI books 90-minute karate-themed parties for kids of all ages. Your costs will include the set-up and all the clean up as well as a karate demonstration and many fun activities. The party goers also receive a pass, good for one free class at Team Mai, and this karate party will be a great way to introduce your child's friends to the world of karate. Perhaps it will inspire them to sign up for San Marcos karate classes, Carlsbad karate classes or Encinitas karate classes.

At Team MAI, karate lessons are available for children as well as teenagers at any level. Students can begin as early as four years old. Team MAI also hosts fun evening events for the kids as well as summer camp experiences. To try out this Carlsbad karate school, they do provide a free trial for two weeks.
