Workouts To Build Ball Handling Skills

By Saad Mirza

Warming up to play basketball is one of the most important parts of the game. The warmup can determine your play ability as well as prevent injuries. Of the warmup one of the most important components is the stretching session.

A ball handling workout that is proven effective is to dribble the ball up and down the court with one hand only. As you sprint up and down the court do your best to control the ball with only one hand. After a few times up and down the court with one hand focus your attention on the other.

This practice helps condition you for handling the ball on only one hand. After at least a few dozen times down the court with each hand practice on dribbling the ball in between your legs as you sprint down the court. This move should feel standard for you. By implementing this move to your repertoire it will be easier for you to defend the ball.

Make sure you choose stretches that will get all of the parts of your body. Basketball uses a lot of different muscles so ensuring they are all limber is important. It is also important to not over-extend any part of your body. If something hurts stretch it less, forcing yourself may actually cause you damage and make you not able to play.

When you help contribute to the lowering of turnovers, you're ensuring your team has a better chance of winning. Keep up the good practice and you're sure to see great improvements in time. The more you practice these moves, the better player you will become. Not only that, but you will probably see your wins go up as well!

Whether you are just starting out or a seasoned player dribbling is the fundamental that can have the most variation. Making sure you are comfortable with the ball and know how to apply your moves in a real game can set you apart from many other players. Practice these moves and see them translate into on-court confidence.
